Radiant Gradient by Shane Turner Art

The 'Radiant Gradient' series, is an offshoot of my other pointillism drawings, focusing further on light and shadow studies of the body. These works add playful colour gradients acting as shadows allowing the brightest light sources to remain white. The colours play off the usual expectation of shadows to be black and/or dark shaded areas. The brightness of the colours creates an unusual balance as they attract focus to the shadow areas and appear at first glance brighter than the white of the page, shifting the focus to the shadows, rather than away from it. The focus on the shadows lets the viewer see the shapes of the body as the contours are highlighted as if they were being lit, as much if not more than the parts fo the figure in direct light.

These drawings are created using the stippling / pointillism techniques, and are made of thousands of tiny colour dots, overlapping to create transitions and gradients from colour to colour.
